Setting Up Your Account & Joining the Pilot Group
Getting started with Paperback Passport is straightforward. This guide walks you through creating your account and joining the Pilot Group so you can begin swapping books.
Creating Your Account
If you haven't already created your account, here's how:
Click the account creation link from your welcome email
Enter your details: name, email, and create a password
Confirm your email address by clicking the verification link sent to your inbox
Complete your profile with any additional information requested
Once your account is created, you'll receive a confirmation email letting you know you're all set.
Joining the Pilot Group
Within 24 hours of creating your account, you'll receive a separate email with your invitation to join the Pilot Group. This is an important step—you won't be able to add books or participate in swaps until you've accepted this invite.
What's a Pilot Group?
Think of the Pilot Group as your swapping community. It's the collection of readers you'll be matched with during the pilot program. By keeping the group small and focused, we can test the platform thoroughly and gather meaningful feedback.
How to Accept Your Invite
Check your inbox for an email with the subject line that includes "Pilot Group Invite"
Click the invitation link in the email
Accept the invitation when prompted
Confirm that you've successfully joined the group
You should see the Pilot Group appear in your dashboard once you've accepted.
Didn't Receive Your Invite?
If you don't see your Pilot Group invitation within 24 hours:
Check your spam or promotions folder
Make sure you've verified your email address
Email support@paperbackpassport.com and we'll resend it
Navigating Your Dashboard
Once you've joined the Pilot Group, take a moment to familiarize yourself with your dashboard. Here's what you'll see:
My Groups This shows all the groups you're part of—right now, that's just the Pilot Group.
My Library This is where you'll add books you're willing to swap. It starts empty, and you'll fill it in the next step.
Active Swapping Chains Once swapping begins, you'll see your active swaps here—who you're matched with, shipping status, and swap details.
My Selections This shows the books you've requested from others in your group.
Notifications Important updates about matches, shipping reminders, and platform news will appear here.
Understanding Swapping Chains
You might notice references to "Swapping Chains" in the platform. Here's what that means:
A Swapping Chain is a swapping round within your group. Think of it as a cycle where everyone adds books, makes selections, gets matched, and completes swaps. One chain = one round of swapping.
During the pilot, we'll manage the Swapping Chains for you. You'll receive a notification when a new chain is starting, and all you need to do is add your books and make your selections.
What Happens Next?
Now that you're set up and part of the Pilot Group, you're ready to start building your library and selecting books. The next article walks you through exactly how to add books to your collection and choose which books you'd like to receive.
