Why join?

your passport to new stories

Paperback Passport connects your books to readers who want them and matches you with the stories on your list. Sometimes it is a direct swap, other times your books travel through a chain of readers so everyone gets something new to read.

How it works

  • Take a photo and add a quick note about what you thought. This helps us understand your taste and match you with someone who’ll love what you’ve got.

  • We look at your reading wish list and what’s available, then match you with a book from a reader who has something you want.

  • Follow the instructions inside your box, pack your book, and drop it at AusPost. We track both parcels and let you know when yours arrives. No haggling, no back and forth, just a simple swap.

  • As a founding swapper, your feedback is part of the process. At different stages — from your first match to the swap experience itself — we’ll ask you to complete quick surveys. Your input is what helps us refine Paperback Passport, so it’s a key requirement of joining the pilot.

FAQs

How does matching work?

You create a wishlist of books you want and list the ones you are ready to part with. We match you through a swap chain and notify you when a match becomes available, and you can then accept or decline.

How do I ship my first swap?

We send you a starter box with everything you’ll need. Follow the instructions provided, pack your book, and drop it at AusPost.

What do I do before I pack my book?

Scan the QR on your listing, take a few photos, and add a quick note on condition. This helps set clear expectations for other swappers.

What do I do when I receive my swap?

Unpack it and enjoy. Then let us know if the condition matched your expectations and if you would swap with this reader again.

Who pays for shipping during the pilot?

WWe cover the box and postage during the pilot. All you need to do is pack your book and drop it at AusPost.

What do I need to commit to as a founding swapper?

Complete two swaps in your first 30 days and give feedback after each one. Your insights help us refine how Paperback Passport works.

What else do I get?

Founding swappers get priority access when we expand, plus the chance to earn badges, refer friends, and shape new features.

Can I swap a book again after I receive it?

Yes. Once you are finished, just add it back to your swap list. Books can keep travelling as long as they are in readable condition.
